Lens Review: Sony 18-105MM F4 Zoom

I recently purchased a used Sony 18-105MM F4 zoom lens for APS-C cameras on Ebay and decided to do a proper review.

I test both video and pictures as well as compared the performance to a 35MM F1.8.

It is a well-built lens and a decent performer, but it has some issues in the corners, it isn’t next level crispy, but what do you want for an 8-year-old zoom lens?

Last Minute Holiday Gift Suggestions

I did a little year-end holiday gift guide because why the heck not? I came up with options that are both budget and baller. I specifically sought out practical gifts as well as a few fun ones.

I am posting this on Sunday 12/20/2020 – you might already be too late (pray that Amazon has that next day shipping option).

Comica BoomX-D Wireless Mic Review

A B&H Holiday gift guide turned me on to Comica’s BoomX-D wireless mic set.

The BoomX-D comes with one receiver, two wireless mics, 2 lav mic attachments, two dead-cats for outdoor wind reduction, and all the cables you need.

Once I figured out the settings, the sound was pretty good… actually better than good. The wireless option also had great range and I was able to move away from the receiver (and go to a different floor) without losing a connection or audio quality.

Chromecast with Google TV Review

As promised, here is a review of Google’s newest Chromecast device which (finally) comes with a dedicated remote control.

If you don’t want to watch the video, I highly recommend it at the $50 price point (and I am sure it will come down in price a little bit over the coming months).

This is a perfect holiday gift.

Nvidia Shield TV Pro Review

Now that the Chromecast with Android TV has been released, I revisit the Nvidia Shield Pro to discuss the differences.

It is a powerful device that has the best response I have seen in a streaming system, but that performance comes at a premium.

Is the high price tag worth it with the other options available on the market right now? Also, how does Android TV compare to Amazon Fire TV and Roku’s platform?

Sony A7C: First Impressions Review

I uploaded a few videos yesterday while messing around with my new Sony A7C. I didn’t think anybody outside my social circle would look at them… but I was wrong.

I felt like I should do a proper first impressions review of the camera based on my (relatively) limited experience… which I am trying to use to my advantage in this scenario. A professional photographer is going to have a specific point of view that is vastly different than an amateur.

Not calling the pros jaded, but some of the complaints I have read about the A7C don’t seem to make any sense if you just want a nice camera to use.
