Sony A7IV: First Impressions

My Sony A7IV arrived on Christmas Eve and I spent the last 3 weeks learning the settings.

This video addresses customization suggestions as well as minor issues with the camera.

The A7IV is a significant upgrade over the Sony A7C and I hope Sony addresses the battery and (potential) file codec issues.

Note: This video was shot on the Sony A7C with the Sony 35MM 1.8

Lentil Soup Recipe

When it is cold outside, I make a pot of lentil soup just about every week.

I was inspired to record this cooking session thanks to some bone broth my father gave me. I felt like it would take my standard lentil soup to the next level and I was right.

Here are the ingredients since I don’t get into specific measurements in the video:

  • 1 lb. lentils (rinsed and inspected)
  • 2 cups chopped carrots
  • 2 cups diced onions
  • 2 cups diced celery
  • 4 garlic cloves (minced or pressed into paste)
  • 2 cups diced squash (optional)
  • 2 cans Rotel Original (Diced Tomatoes and Green Chilis)
  • 32 oz of stock (beef, vegetable, chicken – your preference)
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning (or 2 bay leaves and 1 teaspoons of thyme)
  • 3 tablespoons sea salt (or to taste)
  • 3 tablespoons of Gourmet Collection Seasoning Blend, (Smoked Paprika, Garlic, Chili & Chives)
  • Water (variable, at least 10 oz)

Peak Design Makes Sunglasses?

I bought new sunglasses during Peak Design’s 2021 Black Friday sale.

The moment I saw them I thought – “I didn’t realize Peak Design made sunglasses and wtf makes them special?

It was surprising how little information was available about these sunglasses on the internet and YouTube considering how beloved most Peak Design products are.

I review the glasses and provide more background information on how they came into existence.

December Japanese Snack Box Review

The December 2021 Bokksu Snack Box arrived at the house last week and Ben and Allison did their monthly review. The theme was “Hokkaido Holiday”.

December in Japan seems to be connected with corn? There was a strong corn theme this month that did not go over well with the reviewers (can you say “corn tea”?).

The big winner was the apple gummy snacks and the white chocolate covered potato chips.

Tamron 28-200MM F2.8-5.6 Initial Review

I purchased the Tamron 28-200 F2.8-5.6 during a Black Friday sale. I spent the last two weeks making videos and taking pictures to get more familiar with the lens.

A few weeks in, I really like this lens. At 28MM, it compares favorably to the Tamron 17-28 2.8 (as it should). For what it is, the lens is light (at just over 1 lb.) and gives very good range.

I am going to enjoy using the lens over the next year(s).
